Degree Show Promotion

Our first day back to college, start of semester two and we're given a sheet entitled "Group Show and Promotion." Basically we must promote our show, fund raise and get people to the event.

To name but a few we must produce: A group poster at A3 size or above; an invitation to the private view; a group promotional item; a database of contacts; an image bank and the obvious...fundraising in order to make all of the above possible. Personally we must create a webpage, which in my case will take form under the domain name welovegraphicdesign.co.uk...and I will continue to persuade the guy who owns .com to sell it to me....muhahahaha. My website will contain most of my portfolio and I will also update my hard copy portfolio for presentation as well.

Soooooo...what does all this mean? Well later on today, Thursday 14th January, we must present our ideas for the above to the class and as a group we will chose the best one and it will be put into production from immediate effect. In the past, degree shows have promoted themselves in various ways from slime in envelopes, a buzzer to 'shock' you when open it and a relevant statistic, calling cards etc. My idea's so far consist of something to do with modern technology, iphone, ipod etc as a digital invite, some sort of game show contestant theme. "Who goes? You decide" style. Entering the unknown, being unknown or anonymous in the big bad world. Who knows! I guess tomorrow will bring the answers to these things....

And the fundraising? I hear you ask. Well, my mum has done and will continue to do lots of charirty and fundraising work so I gave her a wee tinkle earlier on. We had a brainstorm and came up with things along the lines of a car treasure hunt, a karaoke night, silent auction, band night, race night etc. I'm sure there is a lot more brainstorming to be continued there though!

It's all quite scary how fast it is going to happen and this is really reflected in how quickly a decision is going to be made based on what is most probably a loose idea presented to the group. The production side of things needs to be completed over easter and then the invites sent out in plenty time for the show which is to be held the first week of June 2010. Any ideas?...throw them my way!
