A bit more about me
I began my design route after starting out on the Intro to Digital Media course at Edinburgh's Telford College. This course included sound and vision, Radio, Animation and various graphic design and photo editing elements. To cut a long story short, I didn't complete the course and after being promised a place on the HND Graphics course by an "unnamed" lecturer, I found myself searching for another course in Scotland with a Degree option.
Adam Smith College:Inspiring Learning
My search took me to Stenton, Glenrothes where I found a course named HND Visual Communication, I took my portfolio along with me when I went to find out more information and got offered a place there and then. Phew! So having done very little design work apart from Advanced Higher Art and Credit Standard Grade Graphic Communication, I found this quite daunting. However, it was a challenge I was more than willing to attack head on. I moved to Kirkcaldy and started the course in the Autumn of 2007. First year was a huge learning curve but after 1 day I knew this was the route I wanted to go down, I had so much to learn and so much to take on board but it was so exciting. Second year came and went so fast, I passed almost every module with a Merit and was very pleased with my progress. My final overall grade was an A and I was ecstatic! I could never have done it without the great lecturers, no really, they also teach at Duncan and Jordanson in Dundee and the ECA. We have the best of both worlds. I would HIGHLY recommend the course to anyone who is interested in studying graphic design in Scotland. The end of year show was a great success and almost everyone in the class passed. We lost two of our HND graduates to the LCC, London and to Duncan and Jordanson. Congrats to both of them again!
The Briefs
Now I am into my third and final year on a course which is ran by Abertay University, Dundee, but is based at the Stenton Campus in Glenrothes of Adam Smith College. Semester one finished mid December and we returned to college on Monday. I have one module still to find out the results for but the news is good so far with my highest mark being a B. Semester one modules consisted of a Typographic brief in which we had to design a corporate identity, catalogue, postal pack and invitation for a new typographic museum opening in Basel, Switzerland.

Along side this project ran an Illustration brief. Within this brief we had to design 5 pocket book jackets with the theme of New Chinese Voices. Each novel had to be fiction, by an author that was still alive and all 5 had to have a running theme that linked them in some way or another. After researching for far too many weeks, and wasting valuable time, I finally chose the theme of the role women play within Chinese culture.

The last brief than was ran along side the others was a brief for an Interactive web design with a typographic theme called Broadcast. We had to find a 5 minute broadcast that approached and issue or suchlike and explore it typographically. As this was a double credit we also had to create the typographic content ourselves. I decided to chose Chris Rock's stand up sketch on Slavery, being a bit of a comedian myself, I wanted it to be lighthearted and something people could have a good belly jiggle to. In terms of creating the webpage, we were to use Flash. I was completely out of my depth as I had a personal hatred for Flash purely as it had defeated me in HNC and HND years and I just didn't grasp it. I decided I would give this my best shot and overcome my Flashphobia. Ironically, as far as I know, the webpage was my best mark for semester one! I still haven't found out my mark for my Illustration...... Link to Broadcast.com - my Webpage. (you will need your sound on)
